[Cos]Playin' it Up

Ok... as previous posts show... I really like costumes.
Alice, Hobbits, Sherlock, Moonrise Kingdom, Lizzie Bennet Diaries.

But I thought I should give you an update of some costumes and cosplay lately.

For Halloween, some friends and I decided on going as Fantastic Mr. Fox characters.
Even despite the "What does the fox say?" craze, this Wes Anderson inspired look was a fun one to pull together.
[Foxy - mask, tie, vest, blazer, tail]

[Mr. Fox, Mrs. Fox, Ash Fox]
[Inspiration: Foxes on the right]

A few weeks later was the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special (extensive post here).
For the house party with friends, I went as Amy Pond from "The Impossible Astronaut"
[Amy: plaid, denim, sharpie necklace]
[inspiration]
The next night, Rebekah and I went to a showing in Seattle.
She rocked it as Rose from "The Idiot's Lantern" (1950's ;) and I went as the 11th Doctor.
[11 & Rose]
I even found myself an Amy from "The Impossible Astronaut" episode - perfect!
[11 & Amy]

December brought with it the Hobbit and, being that Bob wanted to see my costume, I threw an "Unexpected Party" at work.

[Hobbit: ears, vest, green blazer, cloak, Lothlorien Leaf, handkerchief.]

[The ears :]

And then, this past Sunday, Sherlock returned to PBS.  So, my flatmate and I hosted a costumed premiere party.
I knew right away, I wanted to go as "The Woman."  And no, not because of that.
[Irene Adler - dress: black, eyeliner: blue, lips: blood, earrings: diamond, hair: classic twist.]
[Irene Inspiration]

Somewhat last minute, not only did my brothers come, they brought their A-game as Moriarty and Sherlock - the gents in Irene's life.
[Moriarty: Westwood, Irene: Azagury, Sherlock: Belstaff]
So... those have been my costume adventures the last few months.
I'm looking forward to more soon.  Any reason for a costume. :)

Which are some of your favorite characters or costumes?  Who do you like to dress up as?

"I love you... but you don't know what you're talking about."

So the costume I went with...  Suzy Bishop from Moonrise Kingdom!

I didn't have much time, but whipped this together - including cardboard/ducttape binoculars.
Because they're her secret power!
Oh... and I had a library book in my bag - not overdue.
And I left my lefty-scissors at home ;)

"These are my books. I like stories with magic powers in them. Either in kingdoms on Earth or on foreign planets. Usually I prefer a girl hero, but not always."

"Why do you always use binoculars?"
"It helps me see things closer. Even if they're not very far away. I pretend it's my magic power."

Trvia Tuesday

So today I had my mind blown - doubly blown!

I may be the last person to know this, but...

Today I found out that this guy:

[Rushmore, 1998]

and this guy:

[Princess Diaries, 2001]

are brothers!!

Jason and Robert Schwartzman.
[What is it with them and private-school uniforms?]
But yes, seriously, they are brothers.
I had to let that sink in.

But that's not all.

They are Coppolas.

Flipping Coppolas!!!!
As in Francis Ford is their Uncle.
As in their mom was in The Godfather (and Rocky).
As in Sofia & Roman Coppola & Nicholas Cage are their first cousins.
As in not distantly connected - they are full fledged Coppolas!

I've been wigging out all day, people.

[Jason Schwartzman in Wes Anderson:
Rushmore (1998) - first acting gig ever
The Darjeeling Limited (2007) - as Adrien Brody + Owen Wilson's brother
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) - Ash is ... {} "different"
Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - Cousin Ben... "I'm keeping the nickels."]

[Jason Schwartzman with Wes Anderson:  These two are kind of amazing together!!]

Alright, alright... back to work.

Still wigging out :P

summer wishes and sunny days

Well, I hope you had a fantastic day--because I sure did!

Finally out of school, I've gotten to spend more time with this amazing lady:
[Vintage graduation party]
Cami and I have dined at my favorite french restaurant, reminisced about our European adventures, seen NT Live's Frankenstein, recommended gazillions of films and books, and shared about cool dreams we have for "someday."

Today we had an all-day date. What fun!
This morning we went and saw Moonrise Kingdom - simply superb, even a second time =)
And then... well, lets just say I had a wish granted.
I haven't been on a [speed] boat in 5 years. Yah. Since my senior class trip to Chelan.
Well, anyway, I've been craving lake-time a lot and today I got just that:

[Couldn't help myself from quoting What About Bob: "AHOY! I'm a Sailor!"]
And despite the forecast, what a lovely day it turned out to be!!
Though, I'm proud to say that after four hours in the sun, I am not lobster red. Yes, Mr. Sun, I'll keep my pasty-white, thank you very much.
Cami's dad - a weathered sailor and sea captain - took the two of us out on his boat and we got to relax and chat and plan movie nights. [Cami - we really need to start a list... haha]

[I even attempted wakeboarding. It wasn't an abysmal failure--but it wasn't exactly successful. We'll call it a tie and hope for a rematch.]
Seattle sun, Wes Anderson, amazing friends, the lake and a boat.

I don't know what more one could ask from a Summer day =)

Moonrise Kingdom = funny stuff!

"Was he a good dog?"
"Who's to judge?"

"I love you... but you have no idea what you're talking about."

Wes Anderson, thank you for a night full of laughs and beautiful art =)

If I haven't said so already... I'm saying it now.
I'm SO excited for this film:

=)

So... I just saw Fantastic Mr. Fox for the first time. Great movie... One of those beautifully random and creatively odd movies that have way deeper meanings than all of the hollywood formula ones put together. Plus it was funny :)
Well, I just wanted to share this one part. It's a toast that George Clooney makes that I reeeally liked:
"When I look down this table, with the exquisite feast set before us, I see: two terrific lawyers, a skilled pediatrician, a wonderful chef, a savvy real estate agent, an excellent tailor, a crack accountant, a gifted musician, pretty good minnow fisherman, and possibly the best landscape painter working on the scene today. Maybe a few of you might even read my column from time to time, Who knows? I tend to doubt it. I also see a room full of wild animals. Wild animals, with true natures and pure talents. Wild animals with scientific-sounding Latin names that mean something about our DNA. Wild animals each with his own strengths and weaknesses due to his or her species. Anyway, I think it may very well be all the beautiful differences among us that might just give us the tiniest glimmer of a chance of saving my nephew, and letting me make it up to you for getting us into this, this crazy... whatever it is. I don't know. It's just a thought. Thank you for listening. Cheers, everyone."
Beautiful, isn't it? Well, I'm off to have breakfast with my little sister in downtown kirkland, and we'll probably play scrabble :)
